Bury Tomorrow - Runes (Nuclear Blast)

image

Southsonic know 100% that TEAM BT are ready for this new release from Southampton boys Bury Tomorrow, what with all their packed out shows and HMV signings as well as reaching the Top 5 of the iTunes rock chart. Runes is the band’s third full length album that is  packed full of punches even after going back to their roots for inspiration.

2000Trees Festival 2014, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire (09-12/07/14)

image

Established in 2007, 2000trees Festival is an independent two-day music event situated in the agricultural hills of Cheltenham.  It tasks itself with the promotion of new indigenous talent, along with the showcasing of great underground acts as of yet undisturbed by the blinding lights of mainstream success. Small and completely independent, the 5000 capacity festival is the creation of a small band of frustrated festival veterans, disillusioned with the commercialisation of modern day music events. It has twice been the recipient of the “Grass Roots Festival Award”, in 2010 and 2013. Here’s our review of 2000trees 2014…

Four Year Strong - Go Down In History EP (Pure Noise Records)

Indie-rock two-piece Nai Harvest (signed to Topshelf Records) return with ‘Buttercups’. Sounding a whole lot bigger than just the two of them, this track is the A-side of their split with Playlounge, which sees both bands contributing a new track and, in turn, a cover of each other. The record will be released on 12” flower shaped vinyl (7” playable).

Aaron West and the Roaring Twenties - We Don’t Have Each Other (Hopeless)

image

In an interesting take on a modern concept album, Dan “Soupy” Campbell, in the form of his side project Aaron West and the Roaring Twenties, explores the characteristics and idiosyncrasies of a twenty-something Brooklynite in this thirty-five minute tale of a man left picking up the pieces of a failed relationship, struggling to come to grips with religion – We Don’t Have Each Other oozes Catholic imagery, something Campbell is more than accomplished in covering - and self-loathing.
